Once again Brendan showing the world how to play shexie fotbal

Gutted, turned off at 1-0 as I couldn't see Palace doing much as they didn't need to. Absolutely brilliant result for football as we'd never heard the last from the bin dippers..
Gerrard "This does not oxf*rd slip now"

What a mental game!

As sandman said it's not (quite) over yet - QPR nearly won at the Etihad on that manic final day two seasons ago. But as Neville and Carragher said after the game, this sort of thing was only a matter of time given the weakness in Liverpool's defence. A shame - I (genuinely, Liverpool-fan aside) think it would have been a good story for the English game, a once great club improving from 7th with pretty much the same team to win the league the next season. But also have to agree with sandman that there isn't much to h8 about the way City play the game or the way the team conducts themselves, and they will be worthy winners.

Agreed with that, especially considering the British players in the Liverpool side and the fact that it's a World Cup season, would've boosted the confidence massively of a couple of Brazil bound Engerlanders

I think at the start of the year when Man City were smashing teams for fun, everyone would've said they deserve to win the league & so if they do end up winning the league, it's still a good achievement

Best title race for years IMO, even topping the last second scenes at the Etihad 2 years ago

Not exactly a disastrous season for Liverpool even if they do end up finishing 2nd, CL was surely the priority from the start. There's still a chance City could choke but can't see it with their 2 home games.

Would've thought attentions will soon be turning to whether Suarez is going to be hunted down by Real Madrid and how big the budget is for new signings. Heard that Lovren from Saints was a target not sure how true it is though, Rodgers will certainly need to do something with that defence if Liverpool are to progress further.

The same thought went through my mind. He is still tactically naive and shows that he has much to learn. As for blaming his players, he could easily have changed things when Palace scored either their first or second. Instead, he sticks on an attacking player instead of being content with the win.

Quite. I read Vertonghen was a possible target too.

But it might come down to a further tweak to tactics. Skrtel is (iirc) one of the best shot blockers in the league (although half of them seem to go in anyway - 'wrong-footed by a Skrtel deflection' is worth a keyboard shortcut for journalists), and Sahko is considered one of the best young defenders in Europe - there's just little cohesion to them as a pairing.

I'm not convinced Mignolet is an improvement on Reina. I'm surprised no-one in the Premier League has moved for Fraser Forster yet.

I doubt Suarez was crying. I have a feeling that he was pissing himself having stuck a few grand on a 3-3 draw

Betfair tweeted last night that the highest stake backing the draw got to last night was 1000/1

An old school m8 put on FB last night after the game that he'd stuck £20 on Rodgers to be out of a job within a year, at 66/1.

Interesting game last night to say the least and brought back memories of the Pardew game for Palace all those years ago when Palace, against all the odds, won 4-3.

Obviously disappointed to see a 3-goal lead disappear but there seemed little point winning 3-1 or 3-2 as it would still mean City having to lose one of their last 2 games for Liverpool to win the title and we all know that they won't lose .
If Rodgers had brought on Agger they might well have won the game but Liverpool lost this championship because of what happened in the Chelsea game and not last night-in my eyes it was all over last weekend.

Liverpool have the best attack, Chelsea the best defence but, unfortunately for both Liverpool and Chelsea, City have a good defence and a good attack.
Most Liverpool fans would have been delighted at the start of the season to think that they might finish 2nd and score 100 goals, both of which are quite likely.
Arsenal make a habit of qualifying for the Champions League and finishing in the top4 and it is their yearly goal.
This season Liverpool have done that and even had a chance of being champions so cannot be too disappointed.

Remember that both Chelsea and Arsenal have at different stages been clear at the top but have faded away whereas Liverpool have stayed in contention until the final 2 weeks of the season.

People are saying that this was Liverpool's best and only chance of being champions because all the others will spend but spending does not automatically bring immediate success and with FFP coming in the mega rich like Chelsea, City and Man Utd. might not be able to buy the success in the way that they have in recent years.

I am glad that last night they had a go even if the tatget of scoring 12 or so goals was highly improbable-better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all comes to mind.

If I shook my head in disagreement as much as this warrants, my neck would snap.

Sure, he can improve - but then all coaches can.

As I've said before on this thread, Rodgers has tactically obliterated almost every manager in the league season.

I am not sure just having a plan A is 'tactically obliterating' to be fair.
