Royal Lady If this hasn't all yet been ratified, would we still be looking at players to buy/loan - how do we know how much money we'll have, what if the takeover fell through?

Samrit Bunditkitsada's Reading FC takeover enters final stage

Thai consortium have now applied to the Football League to take its Owners and Directors Test

Confirmation of Samrit Bunditkitsada’s takeover at Reading FC is now just one step away after his Asian consortium applied to take the Football League’s Owners and Directors Test.

The significant development came yesterday after Bunditkitsada’s group spent the week at Reading finalising the due diligence process on their £25 million purchase of the club.

Pairoj Piempongsant, the man who brokered the deal, has been leading those discussions as Bunditkitsada is currently back home in his native Thailand.

Although due diligence has still not yet been fully completed, it is expected to be wrapped up imminently so the Owners and Directors Tests are now underway.

The takeover will finally be confirmed once the Football League have carried out the necessary checks on all parties involved.

The full handover of the club is expected to be completed by the middle of next month at the latest.

It will come as a huge boost to manager Nigel Adkins who is waiting to be given the green light to start pursuing his transfer targets ahead of the new Championship campaign.

A couple more weeks wont hurt. Then lets see just how much backing Adkins gets. No excuses this time! I don't expect record signings, but we need 5-6 new faces and he deserves the chance to build his own side.

agreed as long as we don't lose anyone else I'm happy with:

two GK's Fedders and McCarthy
four CB's of Sweeny Pearce Hector Morrison
two RB's Kelly and Gunter
two LB's Obita and a another
four CM's Karacan Williams Guthrie Akpan
two LW's HRK Blackman
two RW's Drenthe McCleary
three ST's Pog and 2 additional

So no need for 6 or 7 players to come in 3 would be fine and with youngsters to bolster the squad we have a very capable squad - who would have though that at the end of may ?

The thought of relying on HRK and Blackman as our LW fills me with dread .... although can't Drenthe play on the left?

Extended-Phenotype JM dawdling and pissing about to make sure he's alright, while the club have to wait the whole summer and miss out on reinforcing. Hero.

Harsh seeing as you've previously criticised SJM for selling to the 1st person who came along with money and promises. Would you rather he rushed this one through, so you can criticise him again if it doesn't pan out in the way you want?

Transfer window is open until end of August (when it slams shut etc) so takeover should be completed well in advance of that if reports are accurate.

Yes he can - in fact he's described as a Left Back / Left Mid on Wiki. Would it work Obita & Drenthe on the left? I also wonder whether we shouldn't play Drenthe in a no 10 position just behind the striker(s), running amok and generally causing havoc in a 4-3-1-2 formation. Perhaps as an impact player for the 2nd half only?

Don't forget Jake Taylor - that makes five CMs.

I don't think they need too many more players - a couple of goal hungry STs definitely and another LB. Focus on promotion and use the cup games to blood the youngsters. Cup glory would be great but promotion should be the ambition.

Thats a fair point, but I do wonder how much during last season the situation where contracts weren't being discussed, etc. affected things. I also reckon there may have been times when they weren't being paid (or coming close to not being paid). Hopefully that should all change.
