Sweet Caroline - new words

by kevan » 11 Mar 2015 11:59

I always liked Sweet Caroline so I had a go at some Reading specific words - changing it as little as possible. I think the first 3 verses are a bit slow to build and so we should try to start at the first chorus.

Any improvements or adoption welcome.

Please also feel free to vent any irrational spleen if you have had a bad day or a life that didn't turn out as you hoped :P

Where it began,
I can't begin to knowin'
Down at the Mad Stad, growing strong

Was in the spring
And spring became the summer
Who'd have believed you'd come along.

Hands, touchin' hands
Reachin' out, touchin' me, touchin' you

Sweet Reading mine
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined
To believe they never would
But now I...

...look at the game
And it don't seem so lonely
We fill it up with goals on cue.

And when we lose,
Hurtin' runs off my shoulders
How can I hurt when watching you?

Warm, touchin' warm
Reachin' out, touchin' me, touchin' you

Sweet Reading mine
Good times never seemed so good
I've been inclined,
To believe they never would
Oh, no, no

Sweet Reading mine
Good times never seemed so good
Sweet Reading mine
I believe they never could
Sweet Reading mine
Good times never seemed so good
Sweet Reading mine

I think we should leave the song writing to Neil Diamond..

Like you would never get Sheffield United supporters to beat John Denver's efforts or learn new words - never happen

I'm still eating my disgusting fatty burger with stale bun, and gulping down a pint of piss at that time. The only thing alive are the bugs in the broken blue light bug catcher.

I think it should be modernised with a John Barns style rap about midway though.

It was 2.45, the place was alive,
With the Elm Park sound as we came to the Ground,
The crowd was still growing,
Excitement was showing,
When the kick-off came it was down to the game.

And the White, Blue, win or lose,
We're with you all the way,
We got a feeling this is gonna be our day.

And the match was on when they heard our song,
And if your with the Royals,
We know you'll sing along.

It's the heart of the town when you're there at the ground,
It's the atmosphere that makes you so proud,
When there's so much to play for that makes you feel sure,
The team needs you and you need them too.

And the White, Blue, win or lose,
We're with you all the way,
We got a feeling this is gonna be our day.

And the match was on when they heard our song,
And if your with the Royals,
We know you'll sing along.

.... Sing for the Royals!

It was 2.45, the place was dead,
Half the fans were watching TV instead.
There was no joy to be found,
as we entered the ground,
And when the kick-off came it was more of the same.
