Round up of the last full w/e of 'local' NL football:

Saturday 25th April

CONFP
Grimsby Town 3-1 Aldershot Town
Woking 3-2 FC Halifax Town - 10 man Cards get a dramatic turn-around with an equalising pen on 90’ and a winner soon after! – Finish the season in 7th
CONFN
Brackley Town 1-0 Hednesford Town – Saints win keeps them up – the final relegation place is taken by Colwyn Bay, who won a dramatic goal feast 5-3 at Worcester but Stalybridge sharing 8 goals with Gainsborough to ensure the Welshmen go down. ## see STEP02/03/04 reprieves etc below
Oxford City 4-2 Guiseley – OCFC finish 6th
CONFS
Chelmsford City 3-4 Boreham Wood
Ebbsfleet United 4-0 Bishops Stortford
Farnborough 0-3 Concord Rangers
Gosport Borough 2-1 Bromley
Havant & Waterlooville 1-2 Whitehawk
Hayes & Yeading Utd 0-3 St Albans City
Hemel Hempstead Town 0-0 Eastbourne Borough
Staines Town 1-1 Bath City
Sutton United 1-2 Maidenhead United - late winner for Magpies who finish 18th just above lodgers H&Y.
Weston-Super-Mare 1-2 Basingstoke Town'Dragons' finish 3rd and face Whitehawk over two legs in the Play Off S-F meeting H&W or Boreham Wood should they progress to the PO Final on Saturday 9th May

SOUTHP
Chesham United 1-0 Banbury United ‘Puritans’ seemingly inevitable relegation confirmed by 93’ winner for Generals – though they put together a terrific run in an attempt to stay up (including the much debated replayed match vs Sluff) Frome held on to the point they needed to be safe anyway at home vs St Neots.
Cirencester Town 1-0 Burnham
Dorchester Town 3-1 Slough Town
Hungerford Town 2-1 Paulton Rovers
Poole Town 2-3 Corby Town -an astonishing 2203 crammed into the Tatnum Ground to witness the Steelmen grabbing the title – all the goals in a frantic 2nd half spell with Dolphins fighting back from 0-2 down, to level but Corby snatched the vital win on 81’
SOUTH1C
AFC Hayes 1-3 Leighton Town
Aylesbury 0-1 Hanwell Town
Beaconsfield SYCOB 1-1 Uxbridge
Chalfont St Peter 2-2 Kettering Town
Egham Town 4-4 Bedworth United
Godalming Town 2-0 Daventry Town
Marlow 2-0 St Ives Town – Marlow’s distinctly underwhelming season at least finishes with them in the top half (just)
SOUTH1S&W
Clevedon Town 2-3 North Leigh
Fleet Town 1-0 Mangotsfield United
Taunton Town 0-1 Wantage Town
Wimborne Town 1-2 Didcot Towntwo more goals for Mills sees Diddy finish 7th a place above Nor Lye.

{NOTE Play Off Schedules involving featured leagues detailed below}

STEP02/03/04 reprieves - real late raft of demotion/resignations and expulsions have as usual put the relegation issues into complete turmoil! I won't begin to try and explain them all with so many issues unresolved - BUT there are AT LEAST SIX reprieves up for offer down through STEP 2,3 & 4.
This also has a knock-on to promotion and relegation around STEP05 - at which level of course, there are already plenty of speculative theories about clubs resigning/folding (RTFC) /taking voluntary demotion (Sandhurst/Newbury) etc etc Will clarify when dust settles. :wink:

CCLP
Bedfont Sports 1-0 Chertsey Town
Camberley Town 0-0 Spelthorne Sports
Frimley Green 1-5 Epsom & Ewell
Hanworth Villa 3-0 Cove
Horley Town 2-4 Farnham Town
Knaphill 1-0 Raynes Park Vale - RPV sink into the bottom three – not really noticed them down there before, such is the mad upside-down nature of form in this division. They do appear to have an unfulfilled fixture to schedule vs Bedfont Sports – big wins for Hanworth and Guildford got them out of trouble: – will try and investigate precisely what is likely to happen re relegation/promotion etc suffice it to say I’m not sure anyone really knows yet! May get an insight when this w/e’s e-mailed Bulletin arrives later today……

Mole Valley SCR 0-2 Guildford City
Westfield 0-2 Molesey
Windsor 5-1 Hartley Wintney
CCL1
Chessington & Hook United 4-2 Bedfont & Feltham
Eversley & California 1-3 Cobham
Farleigh Rovers 1-0 Staines Lammas – Rovers worthy champions but can’t go up: neither can (currently) third-placed Worcester Park – but Chess ‘n Hook in 4th still have a game left to gatecrash the top three and they would then be eligible (I think). Play lowly Alton Town next Saturday and are on a run of 10 wins and 2 draws.

Worcester Park 2-3 Banstead Athletic

WESSP
Andover Town 0-1 Fareham Town
Christchurch 1-2 Winchester City
Verwood Town 2-1 Whitchurch United
WESS1
Andover New Street 2-5 Tadley Calleva - big win on last day to no avail for Tadley, as Cowes Sports hold on to the 2nd promotion spot they pinched thanks to a Tadley slip-up last week - by beating Romsey 3-1.

Hythe & Dibden 3-2 Fleet Spurs

Some highly unsavoury/unfortunate rumbles going on above about Premier Club Alresford Town’s grading. Reportedly the upstairs Social Club at their Arlebury Park, were ordered by the local council to provide a smoking area on their balcony. Previously this had made up part of a seated area for the football and was key to their ground grading qualification. Needless to say the seats have all been arbitrarily removed, unbeknown to the football club. They now have to provide additional seating elsewhere or face expulsion from the league. A particularly distasteful aspect here is that they were provided with a Sports Council grant to meet the grading and the Council have wilfully cut across this and removed property that presumably they held no authority over? No guesses for working out the Council have (allegedly) rejected Alresford’s request to put in a new Atcost seated stand elsewhere - over by the Tennis Courts!
– all this might yet let Tadley take advantage. Not sure if Wessex have promoted three before but the FA are keen for STEP05’s to beef up their numbers for 15/16 and beyond.

Might try and get to the Basingstoke 2nd Leg, sure as hell be good to go to a game "at home" where your team has a chance of scoring and might possibly win.

Should Basingstoke make the final on 9 May, where is it being played, have the league announced that ?

Sorry missed that bit out - is as per the STEP03/04 Play Off Finals:

From CONFERENCE Official Site:

PROMOTION FINAL - Saturday 9 May 2015 at 3.00pm (to be played on the ground of the highest placed team left from the Play Off Semi Finals)

So if Basingstoke win v Whitehawk over 2 legs they'll either be at Home v Havant & Waterlooville or Away to Boreham Wood. :mrgreen:

That's seems more than a little unfair on Met Police.

If Enfield were docked three points at any other stage of the season they'd be fifth, so why should Met Police suffer just because the league can't get their arse in gear and deal with the case before the semis are due to be played?

... I think there's a lot to do with the timing of the incident - the offence was supposedly brought to light back in January and the Ryman stalled a decision hoping it would go away but now that promotion issues are at stake they have had to involve the FA.

Current proposals regarding possible sanctions would be a straight three point deduction or a replay of the game concerned (ironically vs 2nd placed Hendon) - but time is against that option this close to the end of the season.

Ther are previous situations where sides may have been excluded from the Play Offs - hasn't happened very often - but I'm sure from vague memory there was a bye awarded rather than a replacement from 6th or below. Will have to check back as there was a similar case quite recently involving either Thurrock or Lewes.

I agree In this case the points differential is too tight just to ignore Met Police. There is some inference looking around the Fans Forums, that Enfield have been up before the League tribunals more than enough already this term and that patience towards them from the 'Blazers' has worn thin.

Tinpot league administrators should realise that crossing fingers and hoping it goes away doesn't work - in Sluff's case, 138 days passed between the incident and the decision, which is completely unacceptable. Leagues should have a maximum of, say, 3 weeks to resolve this sort of thing, which in most cases shouldn't be difficult if there is a precedent.

... only a few Play-off and Cup Finals to go for the next week or two - put in the significant games 'locally' and elsewhere for this week.

The thread is 'running a bit thin' down to the season close now.

... there is a programme of sorts for B/H Monday but you'd have to delve pretty deep into the furls of the Anorak to find anything particularly alluring! :?
{that doesn't sound quite how I meant it to!} :shock:

Aylesbury United v Maidenhead United

Combined Counties Division One Cup: at Windsor FC
Bedfont & Feltham v Worcester Park

Hellenic Challenge (League) Cup; at Didcot Town FC

Cup Finals (there are a few at the Madejski and Scours Lane that might be of interest but I'll post these when I know confirmed times/dates and in some cases Finalists.)

e.g. Wokingham & Emmbrook have a very tough Semi-Final at Mill Lane on TUESDAY evening (5th) in the Reading Senior Cup vs Champions elect of the Thames Valley League (ex-Reading Senior ) Marlow Utd. Winners play Binfield in the Final on Sunday 17th 16:00 KO - odd cos they usually have this midweek - presumably no big Charity Games organised.
- there is a testimonial this Sunday at Didcot Town (KO 14:00) involving Reading 'Legends' or 'FC Past Players' for the extraordinary long service given to the club by Jamie Heapy? Could be the 05/06 Vase winning side from Diddy - entrance: £5 adults; £1 u-16s.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...and finally as promised some snippets of local and not so local NL 'news'
Reading Town .. a fairly positive statement issued by the chairman/owners:
http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/readingto ... 22311.html
...holding trials for players presumably to replace the vast majority of the squad who have (or are about to have) walked. Not a great atmosphere around the club for those about to join - and not gone down well in the Hellenic fan community. Debts still outstanding to a number of players according to some reports.
Woodley United FC new 'super' club 8) created by a merger of three local clubs:
'Town' - Hellenic One East - playing/lodging at Scours Lane
'Hammers' - Thames Valley Division One based at Woodley/Bulmershe 'Goals' centre - potential for re-development there (WBC permitting :? )
... both these clubs have sides through all age levels down to U9 - probably even lower.
'United' - think these are currently Ladies/Girls only; run about half a dozen sides - based out of Sonning Lane.
- I'd expect Wokingham & Emmbrook will watch any 'developments' - particularly negotiations with WBC related to location and facilities, with some interest
Abingdon Town - some very sad news indeed :cry: :cry: :cry:
- after a history stretching back some 146 years, the Culham Rd club may be dissolving altogether - they are faced with crippling debts and their main income source has dried up due to rising costs (w/e car Boot Sales and a fairly small 'nightclub' run from inside the function room). Is one of my very favourite 'local' non-league grounds (imagine Larges Lane pre- re-furb only much tattier in a pleasant sort of way :) - very glad I managed to get to game there a week or so back. They may not even be able to afford to run a side in the Sunday League next season.
Doubt if there will be any money to be made from the land their ground is on - in no uncertain terms it is designated 'flood plain' - as for a couple of years in succession the pitch has sunk below the Thames. Ironic that in their first season after dropping down to STEP07, they do not seem to have lost any scheduled matches to flooding. The 'stadium' and I use the term deliberately, is palatial compared to many other STEP04 grounds.
A final ignominy, is that they cannot even have a big 'swansong' in front of a 'large' crowd. They were due to play at neighbours United (themselves in real financial difficulty) in the season closer - the North Berks League Cup Final vs champions Berinsfield next Saturday (9th) KO 19:00. They have been expelled this week for playing an ineligible player - had brought a lad in who earlier in the season turned out for Thame United - hence played at too high a level to be eligible to participate in the N.Berks Cup competitions.
Ryman Isthmian Premier League statement re Enfield town:
http://www.isthmian.co.uk/enfield-town- ... 515-24284/
...supposedly Met Police are none the wiser and are 'waiting for the call' - not certain by any means that they'll get one - but then of course will the Ryman be liable for any retainers paid to keep players on beyond the end of the season - which presumably the 'Ol Bill' have had to arrange - or risk all of their squad b&ggering off on leave. Don't suppose Hendon, Dulwich Hamlet nor Margate are too happy about 'thumb twiddling' whilst the Blazers make their *&^%ing minds up what to do about the play offs! :|
UPDATE: ... and much as I suspected above: there DOES NOT seem to be a close precedent for allowing the 6th placed club to step up and take part in the play offs (ie Met Police instead of Enfield Town) .
I mentioned Lewes and Thurrock and some other NL guru has posted on NLM that byes were awarded.
In one other case cited - the highest placed club were awarded a bye even though not scheduled to face the expelled club - and the other two had to play off for the other Final place.
Only once have the places 3-6 made up the Play Off spots and that was because the Champions in question (Retford) had failed grading, allowing the Runners-up (Cammell Laird) to be promoted to the next STEP - presumably known well in advance; not the week before the scheduled play offs as in this case! :roll:
Seems when the Isthmian League/FA have untangled the mess they have created, the Play Offs will eventually take place w/c 11th May - when a lot of players may have left the clubs concerned - or be out of contract?
Went to the Basingstoke game yesterday. God they were appalling, made Reading look like world beaters :shock: Whitehawk much the better side and deservedly ran out 1-0 winners to make the final.
NL Results from yesterday: Saturday 2nd May
Play-Offs
CONFP (Sunday 3rd May)
Grimsby and Brizzle Roverz advance to the Play Off Final for the Conference Premier with comfortable home wins over FGR and Eastleigh.
PROMOTION FINAL - Sunday 17 May 2015 at Wembley Stadium, Kick Off -14:00, LIVE on BT Sport
Bristol Rovers v Grimsby Town
CONFS S-F 2 Legs
Boreham Wood 2-2 Havant & Waterlooville (4-2)
Basingstoke 0-1 Whitehawk (agg 1-2) att 1749 :( 'Dragons' snuffed out (or should that be Puffed Out !) at the penultimate hurdle.
Isthmian Div One South Final
Folkestone Invicta 0-3 Merstham
Isthmian Div One North Final (also played today - Sun 3rd)
Brentwood 5-0 Thurrock
CCL1
Chessington & Hook United 5-3 Alton Town C&H promoted – possibly at the expense of Chertsey Town but the FA/CCL haven’t sorted out promotion/relegation issues from above yet – depends if AFC Hayes and/or Redhill or neither come down.
Some chat about AFC Croydon Athletic moving up and across to the Southern Counties East League from CCL rather than take the step directly up to the CCL Premier.
Would also suggest that Frimley Green ARE probably going down to Div One and that Hanworth Villa will stay up.
Hellenic Supplementary Final : @ Shrivenham
Hook Norton 3-2 Lydney Town att 245
East Berkshire League Presidents Cup Final : @ The Gore Burnham FC
Windsor Great Park 3-2 Maidenhead Town
... me and the youngest headed off down a strangely quiet M3 and a couple of junctions east on the M27 for:
Hants Premier League : Hamble Club 0-1 Headley Utd - fairly low key affair - Hamble already champions but unlikely to progress to the Wessex League for a while yet - as their ground is little more than a barriered off pitch with a couple of Portakabins. I s'pose they could take the option of moving in with their 'big' neighbours about 1/2 down the road for a spell. (Folland Sports, ex-GE Hamble and Hamble Aerospace Sports & Social Club before that)
ist half chatted to the 'away' Linesman who was very pleased to hear we were from Reading - he was a very anxious Ipswich fan and was delighted that the TractorBoys had got such a big favour from our lot up at the iProd earlier.
Shame there wasn't a proper bar around; I'm sure he would have bought me a pint! Then again he got himself into a slanging match with one of the home players later in the 2nd half - think the Ref was tempted to send both of them off! :wink:
Blimey, hearing about Enfield further up the page reminded me of some non-league clubs I hadn't heard of/looked at in a while.
Guessing Enfield have had a gradual decline for a while and reconfigured themselves with 'Town' in their name instead of just FC, remember them being one of the most prominent non-league clubs for a few years.
Went to a cracking FA Trophy replay at the Hawthorns once when they beat Telford 3-2 back in the late 80s.
It's all a little messy, and in many ways, more like FCUM than the usual "AFC" type club.
The supporters had a falling out with the chairman of Enfield FC over a lack of any ambition to move back to Enfield (their ground was sold for housing a few years earlier), so they set up their own club in 2001. They now play at a ground just up the road from where their old place was.
The original Enfield FC suffered from dwindling support, and folded a few years later.
Fans of that club then set up their own "AFC" type club in 2007, but called it Enfield 1893 (presumably because Enfield 2007 sounds a bit shit)
Cheers for that, interesting read. I'd always wondered how their status faded somewhat.
I'd say they would have been the equivalent (pre-promotion/relegation from League football) to that of Barnet in today's terms. Pretty sure the Brentford boss Mark Warburton played for them during better times also.
...just to add my usual ha'porth - saw them win the Div One North PO Final vs Needham Market - three season's ago at their Queen Elizabeth II Stadium at Donkey Lane in Enfield. They'd only moved in that season. Crowd of over 800 included at the time recent Championship medal winner M.Leigertwood (birthplace - Enfield). :mrgreen:
ETFC had previously been 'groundsharing' at Brimsdown Rovers - think I saw them play there too a few years before v Lowestoft (or maybe Kings Lynn?).
... becomes a real twisted amalgam at that point - in 11-12 Town moved out to QE2 - Enfield 1893 moved in and merged with Brimsdown - moving out again to Harlow for this season 14-15.
In true 'AFC' style a new Brimsdown has now formed with no 'suffix' - who play in South Midlands 2 -joined SSML in 2013-14.
Someone else from the area has moved into the main Goldsdown Rd ground but not being up on Essex/E.Middx football I'm b&ggered if I can remember who!
...aha just looked it up - wrong fold of the Anorak :wink: Bush Hill Rangers formerly Goffs Oak (Bush Hill is a park in Enfield - not to be confused with Bush Hill FC from the bottom of the M271 who play in the Hants Premier League!) - have also moved into Goldsdown Rd. They are in the SSM Div One.
Bit of a chequered rivalry between the two sides: both laying claim to some if not all of the previous 'incarnation's' history - certainly Enfield 1893 picked up all of the Enfield squad immediately after the club folded - but I believe the fans continuity, links down through the formation of Town. The respective Wiki entries were regularly 'defaced' by each others fans - with Town's nickname at one brief point being 'amended' to 'The Nobheads' and their record crowd being quoted as 'Three Men and a Dog.' :D
SOUTHP Truro 1-0 St Neots - 'White Tigers' promoted to Conference South
SOUTH1C Bedworth 2-0 Barton Rovers
SOUTH1S&W Stratford Town 3-2 Larkhall Athletic
- me 'n the lad got to this one - DCS Stadium on the eastern outskirts of town appears to be a relatively new build and as such is pretty flat and featureless. Crowd of 1054 squeezed in; saw the home side go three up on 60' - more or less on the counter - game was fizzling away with Larks visibly dispirited - grabbed a lifeline from a corner with about 10' to go then laid siege to the home goal. Scored a 2nd three mins later from a sumptuous header, following great work down the right and you could begin to see what Larkhall were really about. Sadly (or not depending on your viewpoint) they couldn't force ET - indeed Stratford missed at least two absolute sitters on the break with the Larks Kp still upfield.
...did actually get a sneaky double in too - popped up and around the P@xford Ring to Kidlington FC for the Oxford Senior League Presidents Final - KO at 11:00 : won with some ease by OUP (Oxford University Press) over the villagers from Eynsham - crowd of nearly 200 too.
I see Truro managed to get back up to the Conference South. Hoping they're back on an even keel financially and can finally get that much mooted ground move organized. Some nice day trips for Basingstoke and Maidenhead there next season.
If i recall correctly Windsor fans got as far as Plymouth when the game was called off! :D
I see Maidenhead have appointed Alan Devonshire as manager. Lots of ambition there right now!
... just to keep the thread bumbling along a bit - some Cup Finals on locally tonight (Wed 6th):
Ascot Fielden Cup (played at Bracknell's Larges Lane :? KO 19:30) Iver Heath Rovers v Binfield Reserves
Basingstoke Senior Cup (@ Whitchurch Utd FC) Alton Town v Hungerford
Surrey Senior Cup (@ Woking FC KO 19:30 ) Met Police vs Merstham (recently promoted from Div 1 S via Play Off Final)
... nipped over to Mill Lane Henley last night, for the Reading Senior Cup S-F Wokingham & Emmbrook 1-0 Marlow Utd
Big crowd - near 130 odd - first time I've had to park out on the Lane.
Champs of the Hellenic One East overcame tough opposition in Thames Valley Prem champions. Very late goal saw 'Sumas' progress to the Madejski Final vs Binfield (1sts) on Sunday May 17th 16:00 KO.
UPDATE 'STOP PRESS' :mrgreen: Final KO time @ Madstad above - has been changed to 15:00
Interesting to see that Maidenhead have decided to go down the ex manager route. Devonshire as I recall achieved success there first time round so hope his return doesn't tarnish his reputation there.
How did they do in the B&B final on Monday?
