maffff Adds to their home grown quota too.

Actually Turkey rules changed to have 14 foreign and 14 home-grown players in their squad and are allowed to field 11 foreign players
http://www.dailysabah.com/football/2015/01/06/limit-on-foreign-footballers-removed-in-turkey

But Jem would still be a useful free addition to the squad.

Why do people always slag off a player when he is linked with a move away?

'Oh, good riddance, he isn't good enough'.

Apart from his notable injury problems, which have been considerably harsh, he has always performed exceptionally for Reading. He was a big reason why we were promoted in 2012, and has always given 110%.

His involvement with RyanRoyals was also appuable, a real credit to the club. Cannot begrudge him a move to his boyhood team, just a shame he couldn't have stayed another season at least to prove his fitness.

Coppelled_Streets No where near good enough for them.
Sounds more likely than Steve Sidwell leaving us and picking up a championship winners medal at Chelsea.

Good luck to him if it's true. Good servant, I don't think we ever quite saw his best... I think he was somewhat misused (albeit effective misuse) by McDermott and obviously spent loads of time injured.

It's a real shame that we've had to lose three players anyone in their right mind would like us to keep, whilst having to keep at least four virtually no one should want to keep.

Compared to Pearce going to Derby and Fedders to Bournemouth this is a lot easier to stomach. Chuffed for him, extremely underrated and a good part of the whole Reading network (involvement in Ryans Royals etc.). Hope he does well out there.

On a side note... is the Galatasaray/Reading partnership still a thing?

seems like a decent guy, but I've never been convinced by his abilities, other than having a phenomenal work rate. Good luck to him, but expect he'll be back in the English leagues at the end of the season having "not settled"

Very sad to see him go. I agree that he wasn't used to his full potential under McDermott, and we saw what he was capable in those first 7/8 games under Adkins in the championship where he scored something like 4 goals and was playing brilliantly alongside Williams

Galatasaray have agreed personal terms with the Reading midfielder Jem Karacan according to Turkish-Football.com sources.

The 26-year-old is set to sign a three-year deal with the Istanbul Giants by the end of the week.

Karacan was in Istanbul to view the Galatasaray v Besiktas derby towards the end of May.

The 26-year-old Tweeted that he would be traveling to Istanbul then followed it up with a picture in the TT Arena along with the caption “#Gala.”

Not sure how much I believe this story. Strikes me as very lazy journalism.

A number of players went to the Champions League Final, doesn't mean that they are going to sign for Barcelona or Juventus, just because Jem went to a game doesn't mean he's signing!

True enough, but many players go to watch games of the teams for which they will be imminently signing.

We'll see.

I don't want him to leave as I rate him, but if he has to go then at least it's to his boyhood club.

Think he gets an undue amount of criticism tbh. Upon his return he's looked one of our better players and echoing the above I don't think we managed to get much beyond glimpses of him at his best due to injuries and tactics. Frustrating.

He can add a lot to the squad and personality wise seems to have matured into a pretty decent (and likeable) captain.

Gutted he's going. Out of the three amigos he's the one I really wanted to keep. Still, as others have said, can't blame him and best of luck to him.

This for me is up there with not signing Mackie,

Do they do season ticket refunds?

maffff Adds to their home grown quota too.

Not in Europe he doesn't...

Very good player, sad to see him go, hopefully he has success at his new club and we find a great replacement.

Losing our club captain on a free is up there with not signing a loan player on very high wages who played well for half a season?

Is Jem over 24? If he isn't wouldn't we be entitled to some recompense as he is an Academy product and we've offered him a new contract?
