Drop on what he was on, but probably a lot more than he would earn staying with us

Good luck Jem. You put in 100% with us and I'm sure you will do the same at your new club. I understand you were a bit nutty but good fun as well.

You can tell from his message that he leaves with a heavy heart.

But a one year deal on pay as you play vs 3 year deal playing champions league football...no brainer!

Good luck

Sad to see him leave but I'm glad he didn't go to Watford, or even worse another Championship team.

If a team like that come in for you, you have to take the chance.

Is anyone else a bit nonplussed by these open letters by players?

I realise he spent over 10 years with the club (in 5 of which he played a decent amount of games), but it's hardly like he's our Le Tissier, Giggs or Gerrard. He's always wanted to play for Gala so it's not like he ever truly loved the club. No need to feign emotion to get a few brownie points with fans you don't play for anymore.

Still, congratulations to him for achieving his dream. Does this mean he'll play in the CL before Gylfi?

Congratulations to Pepe in calling this one.

You are playing a blinder over the summer m8 and one of only a few who can claim to be clearly in the know.

Well done.

Well, yeah, I see your point but this one felt a little more considered and genuine than most. I suspect in many cases the agents write these kinds of things for them, but this one was a little different.

Quinn is miles better. I really don't get the love-in for Karacan. Great engine, works hard, but very average otherwise. In the Championship he's very handy sat in front of the back four and snapping at the oppo's heels, but he's no more than a boost to Gala's home grown quota and will be back in the UK within 24 months if his fitness permits it.

Being affiliated with Galatasaray (are we still?) perhaps we'll get first option on re-signing him if we're interested.

His farewell letter does read a bit like an Oscar winner's speech. "I'd like to thank ..."
Interesting that when listing the managers he has played for, it's first names for all of them apart from "Mr Coppell".

Coppelled_Streets Quinn is miles better.

How many times have you seen Quinn play?

Based on what little I've seen of him (3-4 appearances), he's a better player, but I can't be certain.

Except he isn't home-grown, he's never played for a Turkish club or even lived in Turkey for more than a few months.

Apart from playing for Turkey at every age group except for the senior national team.
Possibly getting 25 caps for a country is enough to qualify as home grown player, who knows ?

Well, the rules aren't exactly secret...

To count as a home grown player in UEFA competitions, you need to have been affiliated to a club (or clubs in a country) for three years between the ages of 165and 21. So Fabregas is "country home grown" at Chelsea, so is Gylfi if Swansea get into Europe (because Swansea compete as an English club), but Owen Hargreaves wasn't home grown when he played for Man United, and Eric Dier won't be for Spurs.

Now, Turkey is not in the EU, so it can exclude players on the basis of nationality - but it just abolished rules on the nationalities of starting players. They're limited to 14 foreigners out of a squad of 28. They currently have 9 foreigners and 18 Turks (including Jem) so he doesn't help with that quota either.
