sandman Sad end for Iker Casillas at Real Madrid, not a very nice way to treat a player that has done so much for the club.

Never really recovered from the whole 'el topo' thing when Mourinho was there. That just seemed to destroy him as a person and his game fell away badly. No idea how much truth there is in it but his mum has been ranting to the press today about how Casillas has been treated since back then and how he has had psychological problems to deal with because of it all.

Real Madrid fans are a sick bunch of bastards.

Much like the club itself.

Winston Smith Sterling to City for £49M  staggering bit of business by Liverpool.

Now watch them pi$$ the money away by paying over the odds for mediocrity.

Although QPR will get about £10m of that.

Yesterday saw the typical response from Liverpool fans. "Glad he's gone" "It was time to get rid". "We've made xxxxx amount from the sale of Torres, Sterling etc" What trophies has that won you exactly?

Always such bitter outbursts from them when one of their 'good' players leave. Same with Suarez last season....

I've never quite understood the anti-Liverpool sentiments on here (at least from Reading fans, Kes is obviously jealous of history etc etc) but I'm impressed that Man City spending 49 million on a player who has done next to fvck all apart form prove himself to be a massive twat becomes LOLz @ Liverpool paying over the odds for mediocrity

As I said m8, I completely get your issue with them but why do reading fans have such an issue with a team that we'd never even played until a decade ago? Is it some sort of inferiority complex?

There's no doubt they're paying over the odds for a player who, despite being one of the better attacking players in the league over the last couple of seasons, still has a lot to prove and needs to add a lot more end product to his game.

There's also no doubt that he's been a very good player for Liverpool despite the stats not quite reflecting that.

As much as he comes across as a typically horrible little scrote I hope, for Englands sake, that this deal doesn't go the way it could do and he actually plays and progresses. As an England fan I really want him to grown up and mature into the player he could be so that England have a world class winger who can genuinely scare any defence in the world.

I fear he's going to waste his talent though.

£49m to Man City is nothing though, its the sad state of football these days

Seemingly strange behaviour from both club and player in this instance.

BR said Sterling was going 'nowhere' as he had 2.5 years left on his contract. Some of the other things coming out of the club have only fuelled the anti-Sterling stance. I never think Liverpool haven't handle themselves very well in this scenario.

*Also - BR having his back room team torn apart this summer with the likes of O'Driscoll coming in.......obviously the owners have made that decision above BR's head. All very strange.

Think you've misunderstood how transfers work m8, that £49m goes to Liverpool, not City.

Very true.

Must be a kick in the gonads for Liverpool fans though (at least the one's who recognise) that they are a much smaller fish in a bigger pond these days - losing your top players who obviously think they're shit and got no hope of winning much.

Begovic joins Chelsea for £8m - good signing but i don't understand why he would go there - if Cech couldn't displace Courtois, i can't see Begovic doing it.

Unless he just wants trophies and money over playing time.

It's a no-brainer for Begovic to go there.

Take away the fact that he will believe he can oust Cortois anyway - if you look at Cech last year, he is still in line for 10-15 starts across all competitions. If he doesn't oust him in two years, and Cortois hasn't been tempted away by Barca or Real Madrid then Begovic can make a move to be 1st choice elsewhere with an enhanced reputation having received better coaching and only just reaching his peak as a GK.

If he'd stayed at Stoke, or moved to a 2nd tier PL club, he may have played more but his career would plateau - going to Chelsea opens up a lot more opportunity for him.

I understand that but why not choose Man Utd as there is more chance of him being number 1 there, than at Chelsea and the same scenario applies to what you say above.....

I think SF's point was that the usual suspects turn a debate regarding Manchester City paying over the odds for a player into a debate about Liverpool paying over the odds. It's almost as if some people are unhealthily obsessed with them.

Brosef Stalin Schweinsteiger to United

this is potentially one of the best potential signings of the summer

I very much doubt it.

He'll still raise his game for Germany no doubt but he's past it and is winding down now. A terrible signing IMO.

We'll find out soon enough. iirc He was MOM at WCup Final so your game raising point may apply.

At best he has 1 or two seasons at Utd which is reflected by the fee.

Surely they can put some kind of decent midfield together from

Carrick, Schweintiger (quality but injury concerns)

Schneiderlin (sp?) Herrerra, Fellaini, Blind

Mata, Depay, Januzaj, DiMaria, Young, Valencia (wingers/attackers)
