Isn't the general consensus 2 for every position? Clarke seems to favour a 5 man midfield so we need 6 central midfielder, no? I would argue it gives us good strength in depth, Tshibola has been a welcome surprise this season, Norwood has been great and Quinn has been dependable, can't think of him being outstanding but neither has he ever looked a liability. Williams has been very good and been a great utility man, Fernandez is relatively unknown atm but Clarke is very complimentary of him and we all know what to expect from Chalobah.

I would rather have more quality than less. Fernandez is still an unknown quantity and could well be shit, Tish while looking good is still unproven at this level (and I still think could do with a season in League One) and with a few days left in the transfer window I don't see harm in bringing in a player we know is good.

Clarke didn't actually sign those players though did he?

Fernandez and Quinn play a different role in the squad to the one Clarke will want Chalobah for as well so they aren't really relevant if you're assessing the need for him or not.

As I've said previously, I'm not Chalobah's biggest fan but obviously Clarke see's him as a better option than Norwood and presumably Tshibola so I can understand him strengthening if he can. Personally I agree he's a bit surplus to requirements but perhaps we have a really good deal for him that makes it worthwhile.

Lacoste This would be a silly signing and could upset moral in the midfield. Complete overkill if we sign him as we have enough quality in that position as it is.

Head and shoulders above anything we have. Not saying Quinn and Williams aren't good but he is a different class. Sign him before he goes to Bournemouth

How do you make that judgement ? Certainly not based on any games he's played for us.
He's a good player, no doubt. But head and shoulders ? Crazy talk. For several games early on he was pretty poor. He got significantly better but I don't think Williams , Quinn , Norwood or Tishbola will feel he is on a different planet to them as long as each of them is consistently on their game. Of course having options means everyone needs to be at their best every week and rather than what Chalobah brings personally that could be the benefit, as long as Clark is smart enough to ensure everyone feels they can get in the team rather than a couple of players thinking they are out in the cold.

Hoop Blah As I've said previously, I'm not Chalobah's biggest fan

The guy isn't even 21 until December. So if he does comes back then there's bound to be further improvement on what was an impressive time at Reading last season.

You'd hope so, although I'm not sure he looked any better for us than he did during his earlier spells in the Championship, although I think we probably played him in a different role.

He's obviously got a lot of talent, the thing that puts me off him a little is that he just strolls through games too much. He's done it for England u21s as well and perhaps it's just a style thing, but personally I think he looks like he's playing at 90% too much and doesn't always do enough for me.

Just wait and see if he joins. He's not at Chelsea for nothing. Sorry have to disagree , a future star in the making and will be in Chelseas team within 2/3 years

BIG TWIST in this, apparently, so we probs aren't getting him after all.

L8 interest abroad according to the bloke from the Chronic, at Chalobah would prefer to go abroad because he hates us and thinks we've got too many midfielders already.

I got the impression he thought he was too good for us/bottom half Championship and played too casually... only giving it all on the big FA Cup QF and SF stage for TV.
