Norfolk Royal I was there sitting on the wall at the top of the Tilehurst End which was daring in itself considering the drop at the other side.

Memories I have of the goal were similar to some people above. That split second of silence that often greets amazing incidents then the incredulous roar of approval.

Remember seeing Clive Thomas fall to his knees and thought he was injured or summat.

I was there and am almost certain that Clive Thomas didn't fall to his knees. IIRC he held both hands to his head in disbelief and that was captured by a stills camera man. If Thomas did fall to his knees, it's strange that the same camera man didn't get pictures of that.

Agreed - hands on head yes, but falling to his knees, don't think he did. He was quotEd in the papers the following day as saying "What's a player like Friday doing outside the first division"

It looked like he fell to his knees from where I was but maybe it was more of a Jeremy Corbyn gesture. It was a long time ago and is in the mind's eye which can distort.

Ah happy days ( and nights) I was there with my Dad and Brother in the Southbank, Thomas did not fall to his knees, don't think this was the match that he kissed that cop I can remember him lifting up the helmet and planting a smacker, that was a different game. Stunning goal , my Dad had a Super 8 that he took to most matches, see if I can find any footage.

No - the game he kissed the cop was at the end of the previous season V Rochdale when he scored the winner in the last minute

Thought not, someone mixed it up with the Tranmere game.

Thomas actually brought out a trampoline and did a full 3 minute set with numerous as yet untested flips & spins. Me, along with the other 300,000 on the southbank were just surprised Thomas wasn't put off by the procession of painted elephants, jugglers and dangerous animals that were brought out onto the pitch once the ball him the net

RoyallyFcuked ...... Sindlesham Mill .........

Like that existed then, keep it plausible at least

It was certainly there in the late 70s as had a mate who worked there so quite plausible it was there before that.

Indeed, as it is a mill, it may have been there hundreds of years.

Thinking of the night club of the early 80's, the original Mill goes back to the 14th Century and the famous Easter match between the villages of Early and Winnesh when Robin de Frydie ran across the heads of the opposing players before leaping Salmon-like into the air and scoring while carrying a maiden from Early under each arm.

To quote the book 'The Greatest Footballer You Never Saw' - "Sindlesham Mill was the in place and Robin got banned from there everytime. He used to go mad up there. His trick was to do the elephant."

So looks like it's more than plausible m8
