I think now Clarke's "I guarantee we won't be fighting relegation next season" statement starts to make sense.

My concern over Clarke going is the thought of a worse replacement, plus the fact 16 games ago he sacked the entire backroom staff and bought his loyal team in who will no doubt jump ship, either now or in the near future him leaving us with no manager and no coaches and possibly no money in the kitty.

He's got the best out of Blackman at this level, maybe Blackman will follow him to Fulham? Maybe Vydra will move there when his loan with us is up? (not sure that will make much of a difference to be honest).

Fulham being right next to Chelsea and losing Clarke to them would see an end to us signing their younger players on loan.

I'm not too bothered about losing the Chelsea loan link - i'd much rather the new man brings in players on a full term basis, and build the team into a decent Championshop side. Imagine if we do get promoted this season - 6 of our players won't be here - we would get destroyed.

we have options to buy on many of them though, and if we got promoted, that money would be available

Remember Pardew had a clause in his contract stating he could leave for a premiership club, he then left for Championship West Ham and it got as far as court before a settlement was reached (outside of the court, if I recall correctly).

I can't imagine Clarke has a contract that allows him to quit and join a rival club, possibly a Premier League club.

On the other hand, there is always the chance the club were going to replace him anyway?

I care.
Mainly because he's just bought a ton of players in, and I would prefer that the next manager has at least some say in the squad set up.
Really hope we dont inherit the sort of wage bill in the next two transfer windows similar to the size of the one it took us half a decade to get rid of.

He turned Nick Blackman from someone who wouldn't get on the bench for Twyford Comets to someone with Premier League potential. That deserves some praise.

we had and spent money last time we went up, even if we only spent at that level it would probs be enough for converting the loans we have into buys
and theres more money for the prem now.

Tbf I'd have deffo had him on the bench ahead of Mark Routledge.

If you stick to Championship stats only I expect Brian's stats will increase, possibly Adkins too. Coppell's probably won't move that much.

^^ This really. I know there's a maximum number of loan players allowed in a match day squad but is there an overall maximum number of loan player you can have in a season?

Apparently Steve Clarke doesn't appear in the official match preview for Saturday.
