Fair play to Jose and United for winning another trophy and the all important route into the Champions League but I still can't say that'd be happy with that season as a United fan.

They've had their moments along the way (some good performances wasted by poor finishing) but pretty much every time I've bothered watching them on the TV they've been dull and defensive.

United fans really can't be happy with that can they?

Tbf that is Jose's MO for big games and was the same at Chelsea. Play not to lose the 6 pointers so to speak and then amass your points against the lower teams during the rest of the season. It just happens that this season they've failed to score more than 1 goal in a lot of those other games and have subsequently drawn too many of them (Not making Mikhitarian and Rashford regulars until too late in the season would be a factor in my view)

However I can't see how two trophies and Champions League qualification can be seen as anything other than a successful season for supporters and those looking on the outside alike.

To put it bluntly Jose won the two finals Klopp lost last season. Not that direct comparisons with Liverpool, or Spurs for that matter, are particularly relevant. Supporters of both those teams will also be pretty happy with their season in terms of where they finished in the League and the style of football they've generally been watching.

Totally agree it's Jose's MO (and I think I heard that Jose has won every European final he's competed, that's impressive) it's just not what United fans, especially, have been brought up on and expect.

Winning the trophies and qualifying is certainly a successful season in the end, I wouldn't argue against that, it's just the lack of style and class that's gone with it.

Would Spurs fans swap with United? I'm not sure they would. Would Liverpool? Yeah, I think they'd probably give up the style for substance and trophies at this point in time.

Whichever way you cut it they've deffo had a better season that Spurs, City and Liverpool. Another 2 trophies to add to their collection to keep things ticking along. An FA Cup last season too. I think United fans will expect much much better in the league next season though.

And that's part of the problem with modern football isn't it? It's more about the money you can make finishing second or being in the Champions League than the glory of winning a competition.

Nobody remembers runners up in the league - you don't win anything for that. So ultimately both United and Spurs have CL football next season, but United have two trophies as well.
