USA_Loyal_Royal If we do sign him, would this be classed as the greatest signing reading has ever made?

USA Loyal Royal!! how goes it?

the answer would be no, lets wait and see, could be the worst ever depending on how it works out!

No, potentially the highest profile but greatest could only be answered 2 years down the line.

An interesting topic though. What would you class as the best?

Dave Kitson? Doyle/Long joint deal?

Oliviera likely to be tomorrow. Transfer has taken longer due to Farke but understand Norwich board taken it out of his hands #readingfc

Reply: - It's worrying if you genuinely think they'll sell Oliveria, as you've been proved to be in the know in the past.

Transfers are so hard to be ITK to be honest i get told a
lot of things that do not come off
i was told right at the start of season Lewis Holtby ex tottenham was going to Bournemouth but that has not happened yet ( by someone Very Very close to player )
i was told about dijks last season was signed but he changed his mind 10 mins before signing ! so we got him on loan
i try not to say to much because you never know with transfers they change by the minute
Oliveria to reading i would say could well happen but like i said that could change

If you are looking at return both on performances for the club and onward fees then think you have to look at the Doyle/Long deal as the best:

£78k spent, 99 goals scored and somewhere between £11m to £13m in fees received is pretty good going.

Aluko and Oliveira up front in a 5-3-2 would be very tasty, and we'd have ludicrous depth. I'd be pleasantly surprised if we pull off both!

They might be more alarmed than surprised. You'd never know though

tbh, you look at that line up with what we have in reserve and start thinking 'that team really should go up'

Its not like last year where I generally was slightly surprised every time we won

I wonder what the added expectation would do to the squad. No more Jaap's 'top ten would be good' spiel. There would be a genuine expectation for playoffs at least

We might think that as fans, but would imagine we will still be pretty much ignored by the national press once the initial reporting of any new signings dies down. I don't think the squad will be affected too much as their aim would already have been play-offs minimum.

Defender Grant Hanley to undergo a medical at Norwich. Reported to be on 40k a week at Newcastle. I wonder if this has anything to do with Oliveira moving on?

Fair enough and suspect you are correct

Press will be far too busy with 'Arry and Villa's latest woes, Boro, Sunderland and the Colin/Leeds/Fulham love in to really notice us.

Why would they sell 1 of 2 strikers they have to fund a defender... even if oliviera is second choice they would still need to bring someone else in this it would be pointless.

Their defence is a clusterfuck, they're after both Hanley and Flint.

Klose may still leave them - but it's unlikely that would cover one of those transfers.

Need to sell to buy.

Kitson's hard to beat. Even after we coughed up more for getting promoted he still cost us only about £600k, played just shy of 150 games across four and a half years, scored 60 goals, and was then sold for about £5m.

Long was extreme, but didn't contribute a huge amount for a lot of his time here. Doyle and Shorey would be right up there as low investment, long term, high impact, high sale revenue too. There's lots to choose from, but not one of them cost seven figures or more.

well if it's true they were short of cash before Murphy left...

Hanley won't come cheap - 5 mill? maybe they will need to bring in some more money before trying to fix their useless defence

In terms of pure monetary value in a short space of time, Liam Moore is probably up there. Don't think he'd go for less than 10m now

Da Bells, shame you quickly deleted your post after Miffff posted. It’s funny but I did get the impression that you understand how football clubs function, I’m not so sure why I had that impression though.

Sounds like if we get Oliveira it'll come down to the wire. 50/50 at best for him as it stands and currently our eggs are in an Oliveira shaped basket. Unless we get this over the line Aluko might well be our final option in the upper end of the pitch.

For Norwich, if Tettey/Klose leave they may be ok on ins/outs. As it stands they're dipping into January funds to sort their defence.. so they might not even NEED to sell, until January.

Yes, that's a rowback. It's also the latest I have.
