Suspect the appeal of playing for Selles in League One was partially because he couldn't play at the highest level any longer.

As a coach he'd have more options. He has former managers or teammates in several top positions - Arsenal, Aston Villa, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Real Madrid, and wherever Hasenhuttl ends up, so even on that front we wouldn't exactly stand out. Plus you'd think he'd be doing Academy work at first.

Walcott deal is not definitely off. Selles said that Theo asked if he could come to Reading and subsequently joined for a couple of training sessions and is now on holiday while he considers what he wants to do with his career, he may choose to go down a coaching route, he may opt for a final season as a player. At this point no-one knows.

Well people often complain about sideways passing.

So I'd say it means he wants his team to get up and down the pitch and go direct at goal rather than piss about with lots of horizontal passes going nowhere fast.

"Aimless" is the key difference. Even with a decent plan, direct football can involve low pass percentages, but if the completed passed hurt the opposition that's fine.
