Pepe the Horseman £500k would've been a good deal for Jack Marriot 5 years ago.

Hound Yep there really ain’t loads of obvious options at a price we’re likely to pay
Hunt has to get the best out of what we’ve got. Tbh the likes of Marriott probably would make a great deal of difference to the side anyway
Reckon a few may come available towards the end of the window but unlikely to get anyone particularly good now

Completely agree, it’s either take a punt on someone like Marriott who might come good again or explore the foreign markets now. I think we have missed the boat on anyone who would have slotted straight in and hit the ground running.

Royal Monkey Disregard my comment above I’ve changed my mind, in our current striker situation I would absolutely take Jack Marriot and be happy to pay £500k for him (ain’t my money anyway lol !)

Clyde1998 At 30, Jack Marriott really wouldn’t be a great piece of business for £500k and whatever wages he’d be on.
What’s happened to us signing younger League One standard players with potential to develop?
At the very least a Sam Smith-style signing where he still have three or so years at their peak left in them and some potential resale value.

The key to building a squad is not signing just players who are young and may attract a decent sell on value - you need to add to that with the odd player who will do a job now and will have little to no sell on value - I'm not saying Marriott is the right signing (if it happens) but spending money on an experienced player in a position of need makes sense.
We may "lose" 500k on him but if he helps a player elsewhere shine i.e. then that may raise their market value by double or triple what we paid for them, it makes sense.
