Absolutely love it. The Wycombemeter is spewing out heart emojis like a crimson rain. Jack Marriot will be 31 in a couple of weeks with a contract taking him to 34. A 5’ 7” striker who seems to have had a goalectomy in 2017. It is that bad, it is genuinely funny.
To be fair to Dedwood, when they said spectacular, they weren’t wrong. :D

But then we have 3 CFs when we only play 1. Can Marriott play across the line?

Surprised by 3 years, suggests we're getting desperate. Rumours are Ricky Jade-Jones was meant to be our marquee signing, which would add up with Couhig's early noises about how we were all going to get excited.

Having missed out and made no real headway up front since, we've gotten a bit more desperate. This seems like a "decent L1 option" signing, but not a key player worth the longer term offer like Wing, Pereira and O'Connor. We've probably blinked and offered the third year to get it done.

3 for 1 is perfect for striker when it's position often getting a tactical sub, loss of form has a huge team impact and you need to have depth for injuries.

Hoping we haven't spent much money on this. 3 years is a year too long.

But MOM looked twice the player with Elliott on the pitch, so someone with Marriott's experience consistently getting in the right areas should be good. And he's experienced enough to mouth off if he gets the wrong service and asked to just win headers against 6'5" meat sticks.

I think Supporters often place too much emphasis on transfer fees, when in reality the true figures are rarely disclosed publicly. While I acknowledge the need for caution under an owner like DY, Rod and Todd have not shown themselves to be extravagant spenders. Perhaps Marriott cost slightly more than ideal, but the market dictates those terms, it’s a case of “damned if they do, damned if they don’t.”
If Marriott proves successful and another complementary option is added, the transfer window could be judged as sensible and balanced: not spectacular, but certainly not reckless.

Wish it was Sam Smith back into the mix?.... :frustrated: Especially as he's second fiddle to Kieffer Moore.
500k in our state seems a lot by our current standards for this guy.
Keep getting Sam Baldock flashbacks.

It’s Nick Jackson isn’t it.

Hope he does well, but can’t say I’m too enamoured by signing someone who’s almost thirty-one on a three year deal for a transfer fee (anyone with an idea of the fee?).

Does have a good record at this level. Would’ve thought there would be better options available though, especially in terms of longevity.

Quite happy with this one. A welcome addition but a bit concerned about his fitness.

Would rather have Michael….

Anyway back to Jack, just watched the highlights reel and he is a proper little poacher. Hadn’t quite realised how many of his goals were rebounds or loose balls. This might actually work for us. The amount of times we do really good link up play and there is no one there to bundle it in is a common theme I had been thinking of. Or rebounds with no one closing down….. also just train the wingers to cross across the deck more likely he will get onto it or worst case scenario will end up as a corner 50% of the time. Also if it then does bounce off a defender he seems like the type of striker to make something out of nothing.

Adapt to what we have.

He could do well…..

Agreed. It was becoming increasingly frustrating to see potentially good balls played into the opponents' box with none of our players having the soccer IQ to be/get into a position to capitalise on them. Fingers crossed we've got ourselves a Cureton-type striker.
