Stranded Nothing wrong with the Marriott signing - knows the division, can score goals and can be a right pain in the arse up top.

If, as Brogue, intimates we are still looking for a bigger forward to compliment Marriott and MOM then we should end the window with decent options up top.

I see him more as a replacement for Knibbs, arriving late and finishing loose balls in the box.

With Doyle also in the squad I do wonder if Savage might move this week.

A nuisance of a striker and a textbook Noel Hunt striker signing - and one I would think we need.

Defenders won't like playing against him, he will put himself about - similar mould of a striker to Sam Smith I would say.

The young lad will learn heaps off him too.

No surprise about the length of the deal, this late in the window there would be a load of clubs in for strikers and the extra year probably helped swing it for us.

Good signing. On to the next one (also wouldn't be surprised if Savage left this week).

I'm not worried by the length of deal either - it is essentially for 2 seasons past this one and he won't be on massive wages. If it works out, we may get promoted and if so, the step up may be too much but he will be an appealing loan/purchase option for a L1 side in the market for a striker who knows how to get out of L1. If not, we have a decent option for at least the next 2 years and in the third, he could well get moved on to a L2 side on loan or for a small fee/fee just to get him off the books.

I think there was a quote from Todd, saying no more departures but that means nothing in the football world.
Think Charlie has started slowly this season, could be distracted but hope he stays.

He balances the midfield three. He occupies the left hand midfield half space with a natural and good left foot. He gives us energy, workrate and will run all day. The headless chicken jibe is valid in certain instances as he is prone to overcommitting in an attempt to win the ball back. Many times he will try to nick balls off players who have their back to him by committing to one side or another, taking himself out of the game when he is turned. He is not blessed with recovery pace to get back into position. He should be coached to stand on his feet and remain tight but goal side, leaving the player in possession with the only option to go backwards. The overcommitting issue is similar to his father, who when he stayed on his feet and didn’t play with emotion, was a better player for it.

linkenholtroyal Would rather have Michael….

Anyway back to Jack, just watched the highlights reel and he is a proper little poacher. Hadn’t quite realised how many of his goals were rebounds or loose balls. This might actually work for us. The amount of times we do really good link up play and there is no one there to bundle it in is a common theme I had been thinking of. Or rebounds with no one closing down….. also just train the wingers to cross across the deck more likely he will get onto it or worst case scenario will end up as a corner 50% of the time. Also if it then does bounce off a defender he seems like the type of striker to make something out of nothing.

Adapt to what we have.

He could do well…..

Agreed. It was becoming increasingly frustrating to see potentially good balls played into the opponents' box with none of our players having the soccer IQ to be/get into a position to capitalise on them. Fingers crossed we've got ourselves a Cureton-type striker.

Ban RB please hobnob.

Whoops! Too much time spent in the US and watching their leagues over here!

Savage is a quality player. Just being asked to do far too much by Hunt in this system and looks like he is playing poorly because he’s forever chasing the ball. We know how good he is because we’ve watched him last few years

Signs Hunt is making us more compact which will help him

Personally, I don't know enough about the guy to give a Championship Manager critique of him, but I am very happy to give him every opportunity before bringing our the flaming torches and pitchforks, and genuinely hope he makes a success of being a Reading player.
