Jack Marriott / strikers

by linkenholtroyal » 20 Sep 2025 15:49

So Jack Marriott I was just discussing with a friend that if he stays fit I could see him scoring 20+ this season.
But it has brought up another question between us who was the last player to score 20+ we can’t work it out as all the names we seem to come up with just fall short. We think it might be Shane long in 2010/11

Kermorgant hit 20 didn't he?

Joao got close but not sure if he quite made it.

Edit: Wrong way round, Joao got 22, Kermorgant 19... Meite next closest with 17, then Knibbs (x2) and Smith with 16, ALF 15

Kermorgant was 19 couldn’t get any closer.
Joao was also 19 in the league 22 including cup goals so depends if we count cup goals.

1 in each of his first 3 games. Have we ever had a player score in their 3 games before? I’ve been looking and can’t find anyone…

This is where you need someone with a data base, I don't know how you'd even begin to search for that.

Curo did 2 in two and 4 in five.
Butler scored 3 in his first two.

Checked all the usual suspects in my time of support, and Les Chappell got 4 in his first 3 games season 1969/70 season.

When he turn shot and scored, I thought wow we've actually got a striker.

An upgrade on recent seasons

After Marriott scored, I was hoping Lane would get one so I could say it’s been their best performance since Itchycoo Park.

I remember he scored 4 away to Doncaster that season in a 7-5 defeat!

As the ball will often do for Marriot that one will have gone over the heads of most posters.

When he shot I thought "that just hasn't got the power to beat the keeper" but somehow it did.
Couple that with the gift last week and it could be that we have a lucky striker as well as a proper striker which might be priceless.
