I wonder if the larger squad means injuries players could theoretically play through are being treated as something that stops them from playing this season, but wouldn't have done last season. I'd agree there should be less injuries this year, as you could better manage the squad with increased rotation.RoyalBlue wrote:These long-term injuries are getting ridiculous. What's changed between last season and this? If anything you'd expect us to suffer less this season as we have more strength in depth in the squad, enabling more rotation and placing lower demands physically on the players.morganb wrote:injury update via Noel Hunt:
• Derrick Williams back in contact training, not ready for this weekend.
• Andre Garcia will be a few weeks still.
• Liam Fraser out for 6-8 weeks.
• Mamadi Camara back on the grass, non contact.
If I was JJ/RC I would be talking a lot with the sports scientists/physios and wanting to know what they think has changed.

On the other hand, the squad is a lot older this year. And we have retained players with poor injury records (Abrefa, Yiadom, Dorsett, Elliott, Camara, Ryan) whilst players with better ones have left (Craig, Knibbs, Bindon).Clyde1998 wrote:I wonder if the larger squad means injuries players could theoretically play through are being treated as something that stops them from playing this season, but wouldn't have done last season. We may be training with high intensity but have seen little evidence that we are playing that way, whatever it's not working given our league position!Snowflake Royal wrote:On the other hand, the squad is a lot older this year. We no longer have a manager with a sports science background. And were training and playing at high intensity.

Both Fraser and Perreira were training injuries and the training by Hunt's omission is high intensity particularly pre match.MR. Imagine saying that we're on a run because we're not losing? Not gonna get fans onside by declaring satisfaction with 11 points in 8 games.morganb wrote:Hunt sounds like a oxf*rd idiot

On the ball, not so much, though lots of trying to break with pace or reach balls into channels. But out of possession, absolutely we're consistently trying to press high amd hard, then on the occasions its beaten, chasing backMR. It is a run though. Losing 5 games in a row is also a run. As is not winning for 5 games.tidus_mi2 wrote:Imagine saying that we're on a run because we're not losing? Not gonna get fans onside by declaring satisfaction with 11 points in 8 games.morganb wrote:Hunt sounds like a oxf*rd idiot

I wouldn't assume that. It would seem no one asked the obvious specific question. From what I understand Hunt again said something along the lines that Pereira felt something in training prior to the Exeter game, which then flared up during the game. He then said that Norcott had been recalled the squad as a precaution. Perhaps he doesn't want to give too much info out to Cardiff but expect Stevens in goal and Norcott on the bench tomorrow!LUX wrote:morganb wrote:injury update via Noel Hunt:

Hang on, so Pereira is ok?

Exactly the same approach as under Clown PInce and which I understand both players and sports scientists/physios were really unhappy with.Mid Sussex Royal wrote:Both Fraser and Perreira were training injuries and the training by Hunt's omission is high intensity particularly pre match.MR. When it comes to Reading FC, 'weeks' appear to be a bit like cat and dog years. 3-4 weeks being considerably longer than that!Royals and Racers wrote:Pereira has rib injury and is out for 3/4 weeks

Shouldn't make that much of a difference in a professional set up. The manager is an ex player and should have a number of qualified medical sports professionals to provide advice - not to mention the players themselves.Snowflake Royal wrote:On the other hand, the squad is a lot older this year. There's quite varying degrees of 'professional' in footballing set ups.Sutekh wrote:Shouldn't make that much of a difference in a professional set up. In theory yes. However, it depends on whether the manager listens to and acts upon their advice.Sutekh wrote:Shouldn't make that much of a difference in a professional set up.
