WestYorksRoyal Currently time wasting is punished by a yellow card which many think is worth it.

I'd punish it by a turnover of possession. Give the throw in or FK to the opposing team. Replace a GK with a corner etc. Much bigger deterrent.

Yes, but you can't punish a team where a goalkeeper is, on rare occasions, actually suffering a genuine injury.

(If you were referring my previous post, which, on reflection, I don't think you were!)

If you were just referring to general time wasting, then yes, I agree!

The EFL Board is considering expanding the Championship play-offs to include the teams finishing seventh and eighth, with widespread backing from club executives, Sky Sports News understands

Had completely missed the first player moving between clubs under the new Lassana Diarra case rules (even though the new rules are still being worked out)

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6640988/2025/09/25/transfer-diarra-ribeiro-fifa-news/

Lucas Ribeiro had 3 years left on his contract with South African club Mamelodi Sundowns but he handed in his notice on 1st August, stayed with them for the month and then on 31st August he took up new employement with Spanish 2nd tier club. Fifa approved it.

Thinking one improvement that could be made would be to allow the ref to use VAR to identify the tight decisions in the box re: corners and goal kicks

Was just reading how a few months back the Brazilian FA banned standing on the football and you get a yellow card for it. Its been dubbed 'the Memphis rule' because the rule was brought in as a response to Memphis Depay doing it for Corinthians and it resulted in mass handbags

Brazilians banning showboating seems quite the weird move

Due to the expansion of european club football, and therfore other fixtures needing to be fitted in, and with a new rule for minimum rest periods of 72 hours between games, there will only be 1 Premier League game scheduled for Boxing Day this year

Around Christmas time, for a few games, we reintroduce the Jabulani, that mad ball that went anywhere

...or you get an extra point for doing something daft on Boxing Day!

Premier League clubs have voted to replace PSR with SCR & SSR from next season

https://www.premierleague.com/en/news/4467022/new-premier-league-financial-system-explained

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/13473576/premier-league-clubs-approve-new-squad-cost-ratio-rules-to-replace-psr-but-vote-against-a-proposal-that-could-have-introduced-a-salary-cap

14 of the 20 clubs voted in favour of it so its approved.

They also held a vote on bringing in anchoring salary cap (clubs could only spend 5 x what the 20th placed club brings in) but only 7 clubs voted in favour so its not happening

So, why not adopt this in the FL as well so everything is consistent? But I suppose that'd be too much like common sense

Haven't looked at the details, but the argument used by the FL in the past was that the range of incomes among the clubs in each of their leagues was so wide that something like this would just magnify inequalities rather than iron them out. For instance last season Leeds spent £37.2M and Portsmouth £7.2M...

Not sure I agree, but that always used to be the argument.

FIFA looking to expand VAR usage to corners for the World Cup next summer

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/dec/01/ifab-could-allow-var-adjudicate-corners-2026-world-cup

Football’s lawmakers are exploring the possibility of allowing tournaments to run their own trials of new rules, which could lead to VAR being used to adjudicate on corner kicks at next summer’s World Cup.

Under the change the International Football Association Board (Ifab) would allow more short-term trials as an alternative to the system whereby major tournaments largely introduce measures only after they have been trialled, usually in minor leagues or tournaments.

The Premier League have BANNED the knee slide celebration, from January 1st performing the act will be a yellow card offence.

The decision aims to safeguard players from potential injuries, such as turf burns or joint strain, after growing concerns about the risks associated with the popular move.

Another ******* stupid bit of fiddling about that no-one wants. Why not do something to improve the quality of the refereeing and the use of VAR instead?

Waiting now for the first celebration where half the scoring team all go into a knee slide and promptly all get sent off because they’ve already been booked.

Can't they do both?

FWIW quite happy with them banning knee slides. Not so much to protect professional athletes knee sliding on pristine premier league turf, but to protect kids who will copy them and knee slide on barely maintained, stone-embedded, dogshit-encrusted council pitches.
