Hated the horrible kits, the paucity of any half decent British talent, dreadful hairstyles and general posing. It was that time before we were flooded with all the unknown foreigners, that turn out to be actually quite decent, that you get today so clubs were still largely filled with “hopeless” British talent. But at least Bournemouth, Brighton and Brentford knew their place!

There were some great foreign players in the 90s. English football started to get good. largely because of the foreign influx dragging the standards up.

I just learned about Dario Dubois, who played for a number of teams in the Argentinian lower divisions in the 90's, and became really well known for playing in face paint

He was shot and killed 17 years ago today by people trying to rob him and his girlfriend

Given that he was, quite literally, on fire, it's ironic that it's Will Grigg in the 2016 Euros vs Poland.

To be fair, a League 1 flat track bully does not necessarily an International class striker make, even for Northern Ireland.

really interesting It Was What It Was podcast this morning which is on the 84/85 season and the violence going on at games. Lots of incidents I didn't know about, as behaviour at matches really deteriorated. The end of season includes the Bradford fire and Heysal.

A week earlier and Reading would have been the “other half” of the Bradford fire :o
