yeah i thought i'd put the cat amongst the pigeons on this one. was going to go with Ady > Ivar > Moore. but thought i'd throw bindon into the mixtidus_mi2 wrote:I think it's far too soon to put Bindon above prime Moore, Moore proved himself to be a top Championship CB, Bindon might be too but he's played no higher than L1 level at the moment.

I’m just throwing 3 players out there not necessarily the best 3 players we ever had. In that position. Obviously Martin hicks would be in the conversation. On the wingers for instance we could have mcanuff Kebe and little. If other want to make a 3 players comparison they should go for it.Snowflake Royal wrote:Hard to say with Bindon, he's so young, and untested at Tier 2.
And CB is very hard to boil down to three.
If you're taking prime Moore, why not prime Sonko, Pearce, Gorkss, Williams, McPherson or Primus... ?

for me, the thing about Wdowczyk was how different he was from every previous Central defender we'd ever had...Ark Royal wrote:Dariusz Wdowczyk by a country mile. Shame he was a walking sicknote. I hope Tyler Bindon's career continues to blossom as he is such class act.

I arrived just too late at the party for Dariusz. I saw him play once - as a sub in our 3-3 draw at home to Crewe early in 97/98. I'd started coming to Elm Park during the season before. Transfermarkt says he was 'not in the squad' for much of the time, was he out of favour by then?Snowflake Royal wrote:dontbedaft wrote:Wdowcyck!how could I forget our sexy Polish legend

Had a falling out with Jim and Mick, Mick is still scathing about him having the heart of a mouse. Maybe injury issues too.Sanguine wrote:I arrived just too late at the party for Dariusz. Anton Ferdinand is the only player I've ever seen who appeared to never make a mistake. He knew what was going to happen long before it did, and just effortlessly slid into the place he needed to be. Honestly, I thought he was awesome. If he had had any kind of decent run in the team he would have been up there with the all time best I reckon.SCIAG wrote:Bindon hasn't had to face the same level of opposition that Ivar and Moore did.
Lots of short-term players have just oozed class, Dariusz obviously, Zurab, Upson, Matt Miazga in his initial loan. Anton Ferdinand probably read the game better than anyone else but was never fit.
My most controversial centre back opinion is probably that Andre Bikey is the best we've ever had. Imposing as Sonko, classy as anyone. But I'm not sure if he'd have been so successful without Ivar next to him.

That situation with Dariusz, I'm pretty sure he ended up out for about 2 months.Snowflake Royal wrote:Had a falling out with Jim and Mick, Mick is still scathing about him having the heart of a mouse. Basically picked up a knock, wanted to come off, Jim and Mick refused to sub him, he got upset. From what I vaguely remember.
He was just so classy though. Very good on the ball, read the game extremely well, positioning, marking etc. Made it look easy, I guess in some ways similar to Bindon.

Can't be accepting Bikey in this debate; looked great a lot of the time but could completely lose his head at costly moments, most notably a play off semi final (and at AFCON for his country). Top players don't do that.SCIAG wrote:Bindon hasn't had to face the same level of opposition that Ivar and Moore did.

Ivar obviously achieved far more for the club than Bikey, or really any other centre back. Reliability is such an important quality in a defender.WestYorksRoyal wrote:Can't be accepting Bikey in this debate; looked great a lot of the time but could completely lose his head at costly moments, most notably a play off semi final (and at AFCON for his country). Ivar wins for me by some distance; consistency for 6 or 7 years and POTS in our debut premier league season. Moore comes second as he was great for his first 2 years, his career seemed to turn after the Brighton saga.
Bindon may well go on to surpass them all, but obviously not with Reading. And he's not at their level yet.
